Observations Portal

Internal social network where HorizonLux teams post workplace observations from the field, from hazards and near misses to good practices. Colleagues can follow, comment, and react, and every observation stays visible until it is handled, so issues get seen and acted on faster than they would over email.

  • NestJS
  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL

01

The problem

Workplace observations only help if people actually report them and someone follows up. At HorizonLux, employees noticed hazards, near misses, and good practices every day, but reporting them meant emails or forms that felt like paperwork, so many observations were never shared, and the ones that were often went unanswered. The company wanted reporting to feel as natural as posting on social media, and wanted every observation to stay visible until it was handled.

02

The solution

I designed and built Observations as an internal social network. Employees post an observation from their phone or desktop, tag the location and type, and add photos. Colleagues and supervisors can react and comment, so a post becomes a conversation rather than a ticket lost in a queue. Each observation has a status that is tracked until it is resolved, and the feed can be filtered by site, region, and category. The front end is React with TypeScript and the back end is a NestJS API on PostgreSQL, integrated with the main HorizonLux portal.

03

The result

Reporting went from a chore to something people do in a few seconds, and because observations are visible across the company, good practices spread between sites and hazards get attention quickly. Management gained an honest, real-time picture of what is happening on the ground, and the resolution tracking means nothing is considered done until it is actually fixed.
